Barcelona · Baton Rouge · New York · Rougemont · Istanbul Hello my friends and welcome to our Fall 2026 Newsletter!! Time keeps on flying by and as we near the end of another landmark year for me, I'm filled with gratitude at all this beautiful season has to offer. First up, I'm especially happy to be returning to Barcelona to reprise one of my favorite roles, Giulietta in Bellini's I Capuleti e i Montecchi. Working with Riccardo Frizza again, on our third Bellini project, is a dream. Then more bel canto at the Metropolitan Opera! I'm very excited to perform Maria Stuarda alongside Angela Meade as Elisabetta, in David McVicar's Met production. He is one of my favorite directors and I can't wait to join my colleagues there. In addition to these wonderful operatic engagements, I'm singing concerts in Rome, Baton Rouge, Gstaad, and Istanbul, all with different and special programs! Rome's concert is all Spanish repertoire, Gstaad is a duet program with my dear friend and brilliant baritone Ludovic Tézier, Baton Rouge is in LSU’s Recital Hall, with a group of talented students in arias and ensembles, and finally in Istanbul, a celebration of vast repertoire from Zarzuela, Bel canto, American music, and more! I'm looking forward also to leading Masterclasses in Barcelona and in New York City. Upcoming Performances![]() I Capuleti e i MontecchiOctober 30 and November 02, 05, 08, 11 Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, ES NewsInterviews
Reviews"Mis amores son canciones", Dalla Spagna all'oltreoceano — Recital Il Giornale della Musica — Carla Di Lena "The variety of expressive registers, the fluidity of her intentions, the generosity of her voice, and Lisette Oropesa’s natural gift for communication all hit the mark, compensating, too, for the darker hue one is more accustomed to, especially in Falla. Oropesa’s bright timbre, agility, freshnes..." Sorrisi e canzoni, seducente antologia — Recital Il Manifesto — Dino Villatico "...the Cuban-American soprano Lisette Oropesa, who entertained the audience with a varied and seductive anthology of Spanish and Cuban songs. In elegance and refinement of musical interpretation, Lisette Oropesa is simply perfect." DONIZETTI Maria Stuarda (Perez-Sierra) - Gramophone — Gramophone — Tim Ashley "Both women give wonderful performances… She sounds astonishingly beautiful in both, though to my ears her tone has fractionally more lustre in Salzburg, whereas in Madrid, she's marginally more incisive dramatically, the text admirably weighted and delivered.…it's an enjoyable DVD of an excellent..." Oropesa de tout près : sublime ! (Lucia di Lammermoor, La Scala DVD) — Forum Opéra — Charles Sigel "Then comes the scene of madness, where everything converges: the images created by Kokkos, the lighting by Vinicio Cheli, Chailly's orchestra, and above all Oropesa. Trembling, hallucinating, staggering, isolated in the light, she descends the stairs." Alcina: More inspired in its details — Alcina Opera Canada — Lev Bratishenko "Soprano Lisette Oropesa as Alcina was magnificently two-faced, camp and tragic; Ah! mio cor! was heartbroken gold and got the biggest ovation of the night." 'Rip-roaring': Barry Gardiner reviews 'Alcina' — Alcina PoliticsHome — Barry Gardiner "Her voice needed no Strepsil to sweeten it. Dì, cor mio, quanto t'amai, her big Act One aria, established a voice of disarming tenderness…Ah, mio cor! Schernito sei counterposes the rising pulse of the orchestral strings with Oropesa's beautifully phrased realisation that Ruggiero's love is wanin..." The ninth revival of Zeffirelli's Turandot is still impressive in Verona — Turandot Seen and Heard International — Daniel Meyer-Dinkgräfe "Lisette Oropesa sang Liù. She displayed secure and rich, velvety lower and middle registers, from which she soared effortlessly to the generously blooming high notes. … meticulous study and knowing from experience exactly how to place the voice at every moment, was still in evidence throughout, b..." Beauty and Brutality at the Arena: Aida and Turandot — Turandot The Glass Magazine — Chidozie Obasi "In her debut as Liù, Lisette Oropesa's singing is perfectly poised, the slave girl's demeanour marked less by servility than by a beautiful serenity glowing in the voice." Ansatzlos in den Belcanto-Olymp — Norma Opernwelt — Stephan Knies "She descends the Olavinlinna courtyard steps to greet the Druids' welcoming chorus with the bearing of a high priestess; her first phrases to chorus and audience are lean yet full, clear, naturally commanding. Her Casta Diva is not slow and monumental but emotional and unadorned, and it lands so ..." Savonlinna Opera Festival 2026: Breathtaking views and a soprano at the peak of her powers — Norma The Independent — Simon Mundy "It requires a soprano at the peak of her powers and believable as a high priestess and young mother at the same time. So, at 42, Oropesa is perfect. This is one of the most vocally challenging roles in opera, but Oropesa has the range and agility to make those demands sound an entirely natural co..." Reflections![]() Fall always brings a huge sigh of relief to me personally, because the year is starting to cool and the light turns gold. However, it always packs the most punch during the operatic "season," with a rush of opening nights and excitement. It's easy to get caught up in it all and miss the moments of repose. I'm doing my best as each year goes by to take more time for myself, but sometimes there just seems like there is so much to do, it's hard to truly disengage. I'm still learning work-life balance and for the moment I'm just taking it one day at a time so that I don't feel overwhelmed by all the expectations that come from all sides. I am very lucky that my husband can travel with me and help me navigate the hardest parts of this journey; without him I would surely be lost! As another birthday passes, I am reminded that time makes no promises, and that whatever it is that I want to achieve I must seek on my own...but I'm not alone. It's not an easy life, this one, but I would not trade it for anything. ![]() |
