Teatro alla Scala just made three years of opera free to watch. On September 1, 2026, LaScalaTV dropped its paywall entirely — the archive, more than 40 opera titles plus ballets and concerts, now streaming to anyone who creates a free account. Among them: Lisette's I Capuleti e i Montecchi, filmed during her December 2021–February 2022 run as Giulietta opposite Marianne Crebassa's Romeo.
The production
Bellini's take on the Romeo and Juliet story trades Shakespeare's star-crossed romanticism for Italian faction politics, and director Adrian Noble's staging leaned into that framing — sets by Tobias Hoheisel, costumes by Petra Reinhardt, lighting by Jean Kalman. Speranza Scappucci conducted, with Michele Pertusi as Lorenzo, Jongmin Park as Capellio, and Jinxu Xiahou as Tebaldo. The Giulietta/Romeo pairing of Lisette and Crebassa, singing Romeo as a trouser role, anchored the run — two voices built for Bellini's long, exposed bel canto lines.
