Spring Newsletter"Robert le Diable" at La Monnaie, "Don Pasquale" in Pittsburgh and my La Scala debut in "I Masnadieri"! Click here to watch the video! Welcome to my Spring 2019 Newsletter! I’ve had a busy season and it continues to grow just like the flowers that are springing up all around me! This spring I will make my debut in my second Meyerbeer role, Isabelle in ROBERT LE DIABLE in Brussels. Even though it’s a concert performance, it is still an extraordinary opera with incredible vocal challenges to surmount. A very exciting debut indeed! Then I head to Pittsburgh to sing 4 performances of Norina in Donizetti’s comic jewel DON PASQUALE. I love it there this time of year so I am so privileged to get to return! Then finally my spring and summer will be blessed with my debut at Teatro alla Scala, as Amalia in Verdi’s I MASNADIERI. |

— Xavier Borja Bucar • Codalario

Reflections Today I saw a sign in a window that said “I love you. Keep going.” The opera world is sometimes scary and unpredictable, and we have to be ready for anything. But with hard work and preparation, the rewards of those new challenges are endless. We do this because we love it. And we keep going for the exact same reason. As I reflect back on how many times I have been afraid of stumbling, how many times I was unsure what to do next, I take solace in the valuable experience that I gain with each new challenge. I’m learning to look back less, and look forward more. Knowing where I came from and where I have been provides the foundation of who I am and where I am headed, and it is with that strength that I continue to give my absolute best every time I’m given the chance to sing.
