Fall NewsletterRoyal Opera House - Lucia di Lammermoor Metropolitan Opera - Hansel and Gretel Click the image above to play the video! The new season has taken off and we are hitting the ground running in more ways than one! This season I have the privilege of making my debut with the Royal Opera House-Covent Garden in the title role of LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR, a role I have not sung in a few years, and have dreamed of making the cornerstone of my repertoire. If you saw my season announcement, you’ll know that I’ll be doing it again in the spring of 2018 in Madrid! LUCIA at the ROH runs for 8 performances, from Oct 30th thru Nov 27th, with a stop in Berlin on November 4th to sing in the AIDS benefit gala concert. After my work in Europe I’ll return to the Metropolitan Opera to sing Gretel in the holiday production this year, HANSEL AND GRETEL. I am excited to be working with so many wonderful singers and conductors this season, and to make my debut in London, sing in Berlin for the first time as well, and return to the Met in a new role. Hope to see you at a performance! |

Upcoming Performances Lucia di LammermoorRoyal Opera House Lucia One of the UK’s most sought-after directors, Katie Mitchell created a new production for The Royal Opera in 2015. Mitchell compellingly draws the famous title character as a strong and independent woman who fiercely fights against her brother’s machinations. A spectacular split-screen set designed by Vicki Mortimer metes out the tragic events of Donizetti’s opera with devastating precision. This controversial production has been called, "Powerful", "Shocking", a "Masterstroke". It made a splash at the Royal Opera House and returns again with Lisette Oropesa in the lead role. October 30 and November 02, 08, 11, 15, 20, 24, 27 Royal Opera House London, UK |

Hansel and GretelThe Metropolitan Opera Gretel Premiere: Weimar, Court Theater, 1893. Originally conceived as a small-scale vocal entertainment for children, Hansel and Gretel resonates with both adults and children, and has become one of the most successful fairy-tale operas ever created. The composer, Engelbert Humperdinck, was a protégé of Richard Wagner, and the opera’s score is flavored with the sophisticated musical lessons he learned from his idol while maintaining a charm and a light touch that were entirely Humperdinck’s own. The opera acknowledges the darker features present in the Brothers Grimm version of the familiar folk tale, yet presents them within a frame of grace and humor. December 18, 22, 26, 30 and January 01, 06 Metropolitan Opera New York, NY |

Lisette Oropesa steps in for two performances of Rigoletto at the Opéra national de ParisAnnouncement On June 24th and June 27th, I will be stepping in for two performances of Rigoletto at the Opera national de Paris. I am grateful to Paris Opera for giving me this wonderful opportunity! Tonight was an exceptional night, one I will never forget. I stepped in for a beloved colleague here at Opéra national de Paris as Gilda in #Rigoletto. We rehearsed well into last night and tonight I set foot for the first time onstage at the Bastille. Thank you Paris for this incredibly warm ovation, the most generous reception I have ever received! What an honor to share the stage with incredible colleagues #ZeljkoLucic Vittorio Grigolo and maestro #DanieleRustioni Last performance on Tuesday the 27th! Hope you can make it if you're around Paris! 🇫🇷 |

Les Indes Galantes - Rameau - Blu-Ray Release - Bayerische StaatsoperAnnouncement Rameau's masterpiece, Les Indes Galantes will be released on Blu-Ray, November 10th, 2017. I played the part of Hébé and Zima in the production and it was a really wonderful chance to work on a French baroque piece. Ivor Bolton worked with a full baroque orchestra using period instruments and was able to bring out lots of colors in the score. The production was by great choreographer, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, who allowed each dancer to bring their own improvisations to the production. There is some bonus material that is in included so that would be very interesting to watch! Get your copy today! |

ReviewsLisette Oropesa, Gilda surprise dans Rigoletto à Bastille July 4, 2017 (translated) “Her sense of nuance, exceptional and charming, guarantees anyway outset a late evening ovation: capable of hitting the viewer with flamboyant acuti, she also lightens her singing on a few syllables whispering intense acuti and long. She completed her first air (and the public) of pure high vibrato which gradually widens to change trill.” — Damien Dutilleul • Olyrix |

Buffa as blood sport: Mariame Clément's Don Pasquale at Glyndebourne July 14, 2017 “Vocally, Oropesa was well ahead of the pack. Her command of phrasing of the coloratura is exceptional: she can accelerate into a run and shape the dynamic as she leads up to a high note which she duly nails in the middle, with no vibrato needed to mask any possible inaccuracy. The timbre is always perfectly smooth and controlled – even when executing complex runs and complex acting moves – and there’s plenty of power to ensure that she’s being heard above the orchestra. Oropesa’s voice had something of a hard edge, but that may well have been a deliberate point of characterisation: in the one scene in which Norina genuinely softens, her love scene with Ernesto, her voice acquired a sweetness that was notably absent for much of the evening. It was a properly starry prima donna performance.” — David Karlin • Bachtrack |

Don Pasquale- Glyndebourne Aug. 15, 2017 “Whilst every singer was good in their part, Lisette Oropesa who played Norina was nothing short of a revelation. It wasn’t just her singing that stole the show but her acting abilities, her last laugh instead of being sung, coming out as a snort, her actions, every movement that Oropesa made on that stage was exactly the right one to make and I am not surprised that at the curtain call it was her who made the building cheer, stomp and clap louder than for anyone else.” — Stuart Review • The Stuart Review |

Reflections Time keeps on slipping into the future! I constantly marvel at how fast things change, both personally in my own life, and all around. There is such a temptation to get swept up in the rush of things, and ride the propel forward. But that is the exact reason I like to take vacations in places that are vast and expansive, where time seems to move slower. I do spend a lot of time in cities, and the energy of them is fantastic, invigorating, and sometimes overwhelming. For the first time in this newsletter video, we have shared some personal footage from my vacation this year to a few national parks in the west: Rocky Mountain National Park, Yellowstone, and the Grand Tetons. Those places were so awe-inspiring and really helped me reconnect with the earth, the beautiful place that we are blessed to live on. It also helped me prepare from the inside out for the big incredible season I’ve got coming up. I feel so ready, so renewed, and those memories are sealed in my heart forever.
