I had a great time chatting with Klaus Vollmann of Bühne Magazine about my upcoming debut as Mathilde in Guillaume Tell at the Wiener Staatsoper!
The US soprano was celebrated at the Vienna State Opera last fall as Violetta in Verdi's " La traviata " - now in March she is making her role debut as Habsburg Princess Mathilde in Gioachino Rossini's very last opera "Guillaume Tell". Based on Friedrich Schiller's play, this is about the liberation struggle of the Swiss under William Tell, to which the love between the Swiss Arnold and Mathilde, who belongs to the enemy camp, threatens to fall victim.
Did the role come to her or did she actively seek it out? "Both. I had been interested in 'Guillaume Tell' for a long time, also because I recorded Mathilde's aria 'Sombre forêt' for my album 'Rossini & Donizetti'. But I also made it clear to my management that I would be happy to sing the entire role if the opportunity arose.”
