Summer NewsletterA message to you from home during the time of COVID-19.  Welcome to my Summer 2020 Newsletter!  This season has seen incredibly difficult times and challenges that we could not have even imaginedâŠbut we are doing our best to stay strong.  I count my blessings every day and Iâm happy to be alive and a part of a growing community.  This season I have taken pride in building a FREE Masterclass series on Zoom that has amassed over 6,000 people from all over the world, and given them an opportunity to sing, learn, coach, and hear from many professionals in the field.  These Masterclasses have become the apple of my eye, and I am so happy to have the platform to share music in this new way.  Please sign up for them, if you have not, at http://bit.ly/lomasterclass. Iâve also been privileged to perform in multiple online galas and livestreams, as well as hang on to my hope of getting to return to the stage very soon.  This July Iâll be singing 4 performances of LA TRAVIATA in Madrid, and a Rossini gala at the Arena di Verona.  Most excitingly of all, this August I will make my first ever recording of arias with orchestra!  I canât wait to share more about it with you all when the time is right. |

The Met technical folks went to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to catch Lisette Oropesa who, accompanied by Michael Borowitz, sang a perfectly executed "En vain espĂšre" from Meyerbeer's Le ProphĂšte. Her rendition contained some of the best singing I've heard in years. â Maria Nockin  âąÂ  Broadway World
In an outstanding rendition of Douglass Mooreâs aria âWillow,â Oropesa offered audiences a refined and moving performance filled with crystal clear high notes, all sung a capella. Because of the remote location, Lisette Oropesa's singing was prerecorded in her home at Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She offered a gorgeous, heart-rending a cappella version of Baby Doe's aria from Douglas Moore's The Ballad of Baby Doe. Before singing, however, she read an Italian translation of the American aria. Reflections Lisette at Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo, TX, USA Please keep me and all artists in your prayers and efforts this year. 2020 has served up unprecedented challenges for not just artists, but anyone whose life is linked to the theatre, to performance, and to gatherings of human beings in a single space. Though I am happy to have the internet and all the connectedness of it, I donât think the venue of the âvirtualâ will ever replace the in-person experience of live theatre. There is something to be said for the sense of ensemble, of listening to your colleagues and leaning on them when you make music together. Please know that we all miss the stage, and we are waiting every day with baited breath till the chance presents itself to go back to it. We miss you, and our art form will never be the same without the real you. |
