Lisette Oropesa at the Teatro Real

This was the soprano’s third encore at the Real, making her the only singer to date to have given encores in three different operas

Last night, at the premiere of the opera I masnadieri (The Bandits), by Giuseppe Verdi, at the Teatro Real, Lisette Oropesa, the outstanding Cuban-American soprano — and also Spanish since 2019 — offered a widely requested encore, singing the cabaletta of the second-act aria: “Carlo vive? O caro accento, melodia di paradiso”.

This is the singer’s third encore at the Teatro Real: the first was alongside the five singers in the sextet from Lucia di Lammermoor, by Gaetano Donizetti, in 2018, and the second in La traviata, by Giuseppe Verdi, in 2020, with the aria “Addio del passato”, during the moving performances given throughout the pandemic period.
