Les Arts opens its subscription season with a dreamlike Manon from the Paris Opera. Set in the happy and crazy twenties of the last century by the emerging French director Vincent Huguet, it brings together two great opera stars, Lisette Oropesa and Charles Castronovo, under the baton of James Gaffigan.
Oropesa is a lady of song. Her presence alone fills the stage and enchants the audience with her singing elegance and spectacular technique, ideal attributes to outline a "reference" Manon, like the one she starred in at the Metropolitan in 2019, which was her debut in this coveted role that she resumes five years later at Les Arts. Her damaged partner on stage, Des Grieux, will be the American tenor Charles Castronovo, a regular guest at Covent Garden, La Scala, the Metropolitan, or the operas of Vienna, Paris, and Berlin, accompanied by the baritone Carles Pachon as Lescaut.
