The traviata is a work in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi on a book by Francesco Maria Piave. It is based on The Lady of the Camellias, theatrical work by Alexandre Dumas (son), which the same author derived from his former homonymous novel. It is considered part of a so-called "popular trilogy" by Verdi, along with The Trovatore and Rigoletto. It was partially composed in the villa of the Ricordi publishers in Cadenabbia, on Lake Como. The first performance took place at Teatro La Fenice on March 6, 1853
